There are many innovators who have tested the ability of UV rays to disinfect, and in fact, there are already several ways this is being used:
- Poor quality water left in plastic water bottles in sunlight have fewer bacteria.
- Some swimming pools are disinfected with a UV light that is passed through the water.
- Toothbrush manufacturers have marketed self-disinfecting toothbrushes with built-in UV lights.
Using the Sunlight
There are lots of great ways to use this power for yourself, and as it gets warmer into the spring and summer months, you might want to give this a try! Great things to disinfect with sunlight include:
- Rugs
- Mattresses
- Clothesline
- Soft desk chairs
- Trash cans
The best thing you can do is combine your cleaning techniques. For instance, sprinkle your mattress with baking soda, vacuum it, then set it out in the sun for a little while. You can do the same thing with a rug or a desk chair. For sturdier items, spray them down with vinegar, wipe them clean, then set them in the sun to dry.
Clean, fresh, crisp, and it doesn't come any more natural than sunlight!
